Dance Theatre Hurjaruuth is seeking an artist or group of artists to design and create a work of art on and around its stage door, located at the Cable Factory in Helsinki.
Hurjaruuth is mainly visited by children of various ages and the adults accompanying them. The work of art is intended to take into account the audience’s particular inclination toward play and participation. The work, created on and around the stage door, is intended to serve as a kind of transition between the real world and the performance. The work may extend beyond the door into the surrounding space and may also include audiovisual material. The work is expected to feature the abbreviated name of the theatre in writing: Hurjaruuth.
Hurjaruuth will pay the selected artist or group of artists 5 000 € for the design and creation of the artwork. This amount covers all of the artist’s expenses, including materials used and any travel expenses.
The amount can be paid as a fee or against an invoice. (Tanssiteatteri Hurjaruuthin Kannatus ry is a non-profit association and is not subject to VAT. If invoicing, any applicable VAT must be included in the 5 000 € amount.) The work should be designed and executed so that it remains functional for at least 10 years.
Below you will find photos, a video, dimensions, and information on the surface materials for the door and space in question.
You can read about Hurjaruuth and its history here, and about the history and atmosphere of the Cable Factory here.
