M.P.A.C. (SE): FAIL AWAY
Staying within the norms of femininity and success is a balancing act.
Staying within the norms of femininity and success is a balancing act.
With hula hoops, acrobatic couch lounging, singing, dancing, illusions, and physical comedy, these four clowns embrace life as it comes. Behind every stumble lies a story: of the body that both carries and breaks, of unwanted pregnancy, involuntary childlessness, and the grief when someone close fails in their will to live.
United in a feminist struggle, they challenge old norms, the patriarchy, power structures, and body shame. Because maybe it is possible – to fall and discover that the fall itself is part of freedom.
“Fail Away delivers a harsh critique of contemporary society through the clown’s questioning presence, which perhaps better than analyses and dogmatic tirades allows us to feel the idiocy—and the love of the human. It is great comedy and, above all, a victory for the collective, allowing each individual member to shine in moments while appearing as a unified and highly unique expression. This is a point in itself in this charming and finely crafted work, which features compositions by Niki Yrla and Veronica Lindåker as a cool fifth member of the team.”

M.P.A.C. consists of circus artists Karin Svensson, Jenny Soddu, Camilla Rud, and Kajsa Mobacke Englund. Together, they create feminist works that, with vulnerability, strength, humor, courage, and political sharpness, turn norms and structures upside down. In Hairy Tales, unwanted body hair was celebrated. In Breast in Peace, breast shame was buried. Now, they take on their next taboo: failure.
